LESSON – 6

JOSEPH STORES FOOD GRAINS

Do you remember Joseph whose father made a colorful coat for him? Joseph had 11 brothers. God gave Joseph a dream and it seemed to show that his brothers would bow before him some day. This made his brothers jealous of him. One day Joseph’s father wanted him to deliver some supplies to his brothers who were herding sheep in a faraway place.

Joseph went around looking for his brothers and found them in a place called Dothan. But Joseph’s brothers planned to get rid of him and sold him to some Midianite merchants. The merchants took Joseph to Egypt and sold him to a man named Potiphar. Potiphar’s wife wrongly accused Joseph of a mistake he did not do and he was thrown inside a prison. One day Pharaoh, the King of Egypt had a dream but could not understand it. Joseph was able to reveal the meaning of the dream with the help of God.

God revealed that there was going to be seven years of abundant harvest followed by seven years of famine in Egypt. Joseph told Pharaoh to build big storehouses to store grains. Pharaoh made Joseph the Second-in-command of Egypt and asked him to carry out his plan.

Soon the years of famine came, but the people of Egypt had enough food to eat. Thus, Joseph saved the people of Egypt and their cattle from dying of hunger during the famine.
