LESSON – 2

THE SERPENT DECEIVES EVE

God created Adam and Eve and let them live in a beautiful garden called Eden. There were lot of trees, plants, flowers of the prettiest colours, cool streams, and all sorts of birds and animals. It also had the sweetest fruits in the world. God told Adam to take care of the beautiful garden.

There were two special trees in the middle of the garden. They were the “Tree of life and the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil”. Anyone who eats the fruit from the Tree of life will get eternal life and will never die. God said that they can eat the fruit of all the trees except the fruit from the “Tree of the knowledge of good and evil”. The day they eat its fruit, they will die.

The serpent was the craftiest of all the animals God had made. The serpent tricked Eve into eating the forbidden fruit by saying that her eyes would be opened and she would come to know about many things by eating the fruit, Eve obeyed the serpent and ate the fruit and gave some of it to Adam also. Adam also ate the fruit.

Adam and Eve sinned by disobeying God’s law. They tried to hide from God, but God knew everything. God punished them for disobeying Him and sent them out of the beautiful Eden Garden. Adam, Eve and the serpent were cursed by God. We should be careful about whom we listen to and whom we obey.
