LESSON – 9
THE WATER OF MARAH BECOMES SWEET
While
the Israelites were travelling to the promised land, Canaan from Egypt they had
to cross through a big desert. Have you seen a desert? A desert is a dry place
with lots of sand. It is quite difficult to find water and sometimes you may
have to travel for days before you could find water.
Once,
the Israelites had to walk in the desert for three days without water and they
were very thirsty. They travelled further and reached a place called Marah and
found water there. But soon their joy turned to disappointment!
They
found that the water was not good for drinking, because it was bitter. Moses,
their leader prayed to God. God showed Moses a piece of wood and asked him to
throw it inside the water. Moses did just as God told him. He threw the wood
into the bitter water. To everyone’s surprise, the bitter waters of Mara turned
sweet. The Israelites drank the sweet water and quenched their thirst.
